Oklahoma.. The last stop! The GRAND FINALE! Call it what you want, but after a 16 hour drive from the North Rim (while also stopping in New Mexico for dinner), we were more than excited to check out the acclaimed “OKC”.
With a fresh night’s sleep in an overpacked minivan (not complaining), we immediately started the morning serving with Jesus House OKC, a community food pantry that provides meals to many of the homeless population in the city outskirts. It was a super special experience getting to share our love of volunteering with the State Race team and the community alike. After several hours of volunteering, our team was getting “hangry” so we decided to run to some of OKC’s fine dining spots.. and by fine-dining, I mean coffee-shops and pizza! We went to a super rad coffeeshop that doubled as a plant nursery! The workers were extremely friendly as well as passionate about sustainability. The pizza shop, “Empire” also did not disappoint with their specialty “Figgy Stardust”, which included only the finest ingredients such as prosciutto, chopped fig, pesto, and other fine toppings.
Our next stop was a lake in Oklahoma, which during the summertime is sure to be a popular spot among locals and fisherman. We even saw a wakeboarding ramp in the water!
Lastly, and rather sad to say. As we were filling up for our trek back to Atlanta, Brendon noticed a rather large charge to his credit card. Long story short, we learned that some kids had made purchases of over 150 dollars to his card, which luckily had been denied by his banking company. Luckily, we got this issue resolved. Then it was back off to Georgia. Time to go home! See you in 12 hours, Atlanta!!
